Welcome to Rice
Hope British Shorthair Cattery, which was founded in 1993 and is
owned by Emily and Douglas Turner. Rice Hope British Shorthair
Cattery is named after a famous plantation in the Low Country of
South Carolina. The choice of Rice Hope as the name of the
plantation was obviously a plea for a bountiful harvest of rice,
the main crop of the Low Country during the colonial era.
While our plea wasn’t for rice, the choice of Rice Hope as the
name of our British Shorthair Cattery was a plea for the ability
to breed and maintain the wonderful qualities of this lovable “gentle
bear” of a cat. British Shorthairs (Brits) are a robust and
powerful cat with a calm nature that possesses a rich, short and
easy care coat. Brits are definitely not “curtain climbers” but
tend to prefer playing on the floor or sleeping beside you.
Remember, these are the linebackers of the cat world so beside you
rather then on your lap could be more comfortable for both you and
your cat. If a gentle nature and loyalty (with a coat and eyes to
die for) appeals to you, a British Shorthair kitten or cat may be
a pet you should consider.

Rice Hope
Cattery has been fortunate to have the guidance of an exceptional
Brit breeder. Thora
Hart, who has provided us not only beautiful cats but also
the help that any breeder requires. This ongoing help has enabled us
to maintain the high standards we inherited and makes us even more
committed to a positive contribution to the future of this wonderful
breed.
Rice Hope
Cattery has been blessed and honored to have bred solid blue Brits
and blue and white bi-colors who have received national color and
breed wins. In addition, we have received several Southern Regional
Awards for breeding one of the top twenty kittens and cats of any
breed. In 2004,
GC, NW Earendil Fire
Power of Rice Hope (Bugs) became
CFA's 20th Best Kitten.
We continue to
exhibit our kittens and cats in the Cat Fanciers' Association (CFA).
If you have the opportunity to attend a CFA Cat Show, please stop by
our benching area and see these wonderful kittens and cats close up.
